Travellers flying through Dubai International Airport (DXB) may soon be able to enjoy a quicker, easier security process.
The airport is trialling advanced security scanners that would allow travellers to keep their laptops and liquids over 100 ml in their bags, removing one of the biggest stressors of passing through the checkpoint.
The scanners have been developed by UK-based company Smith Detection and are currently being trialled in Terminals 1, 2, and 3.
Notably, the system has become part of a contract from Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), which is overseeing multiple upgrades at the airport to improve overall experience.
Following the results of the trial, Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths told Gulf News this is 'about driving efficiency without driving (physical) expiration.'
He explained, 'In the past decade, we have seen a 20% increase in the number of passengers without any significant expansion in our facilities. Efficiency in the current infrastructure continues to be a core focus of our strategy for growth.'
The initial results indicate that the trial is already achieving its goals. 'From the preliminary evidence, we achieve faster and more reliable screening, as security will continue to be our number one priority, but speed and convenience for travellers can also be an advantage of this new technology,' said Griffiths.
All in all, the new system may remove the longest delays seen in airport security, which is taking laptops and liquids out for separate checks.
