In a shocking move, the German consulate in Karachi has stopped all visa services indefinitely, leaving many Pakistani applicants in uncertainty.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Consulate stated: "All services of the Consulate General for non-EU citizens are suspended. All confirmed visa appointments for non-EU citizens for an undisclosed time are cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Applicants will need to register again via our appointment system."

The consulate added that it will "remain closed for non-EU-related services until further notice."

To note, there is no statement from the German Embassy in Islamabad. The development is expected to affect hundreds of Pakistanis planning to travel to Germany for education, employment, or personal visits.

Despite the disruption, the consulate confirmed that services for European Union (EU) citizens will continue as normal, ensuring that those holding EU passports can still access consular assistance and travel documentation.

The German Consulate Karachi has not yet shared any official timeline for when services might resume, nor has the consulate revealed specific reasons behind the suspension.

The lack of clarity has raised concerns among visa applicants, especially students with approaching academic deadlines in Germany.

Previously this month, the Swedish government announced the resumption of visa services in Islamabad, which will help Pakistanis to visit Sweden for short stays.
