The Punjab government has officially announced the launch of a modern electric green bus service in the Sargodha division, offering affordable and environmentally friendly public transport.
Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Khalid Mahmood stated that the service will initially launch 48 electric buses in Sargodha, 12 in Khushab, and six each in Mianwali and Bhakkar during the first phase.
It is worth noting that the electric green bus service will launch on August 14. To support vulnerable segments of society, the buses will provide free travel for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students.
According to the officials, the initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve public transport while promoting sustainable and cleaner mobility options across the region.
Previously, the Punjab government announced that Lahore would get electric trams, which will initially run as a pilot project along the Canal Road corridor and function without a traditional rail track.
With its three interconnected compartments, the tram can accommodate 250 passengers and travel up to 27 kilometres on a single 10-minute charge.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan stated: "We are hopeful that Lahore and Gujranwala will see this service before Budapest," highlighting the city's dedication to adopting advanced transit options.
