The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has granted a date extension for filing Sales Tax and Federal Excise Return for the tax period of June 2025.

Notably, the deadline for submitting returns has been extended from July 18 until August 4, 2025, but taxpayers need to submit their returns on or before the due date of July 18.

If you’ve made your deposit (due tax) on or before July 18, 2025, the extension gives relief for the compliance burden for the period end.

Businesses and all taxpayers face technical issues or missing deadlines, especially at month's end.

While new compliance measures are intended to streamline the monthly filing processes, the extension enables additional time to file the monthly tax return and declare the sales tax without compromising government revenue-generating objectives.

FBR issued the circular on Thursday, shared it with all offices (LTO, MTO, CTO, RTO), and required them to facilitate compliant taxpayers accordingly.

The extension authority arises from Section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and Section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005.

However, the tax return extension will only be accepted if the tax has been paid on or before July 18, 2025.
