Following the repair of a faulty submarine cable system, internet services in Pakistan have been fully restored, according to a statement released by PTCL Group.
The maintenance was performed by an international cable consortium responsible for a repeater in the undersea communication link providing an internet backhaul from Pakistan to the global internet.
Internet services restored in Pakistan
The scheduled work started on October 14 at 11:00am and occurred over a period of approximately 18 hours, during which users in several locations switched to a temporary mode of slower connectivity.
PTCL Group had previously issued a notice about the possibility of disrupting services, confirming that every effort was being made to minimise any interruption to domestic and business connections.
As the technical work is complete and internet speeds and stability have been restored across the country, many internet service providers (ISPs) have reportedly confirmed that data traffic and latency levels are reaching optimal levels.
A PTCL Group spokesperson expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of users during internet cable repair, explaining that the scheduled submarine cable repairs are necessary to provide predictable and reliable, consistent, and uninterrupted connectivity for millions of internet users across Pakistan.
