US tech giant Meta is exploring new collaboration opportunities with Pakistan in artificial intelligence (AI), digital trade, and e-commerce, as part of the government’s broader digital transformation goals.
During a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday, a Meta delegation led by the Director for Public Policy (South Asia), Rafael Frankel, met with Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.
Both discussed ways to strengthen cooperation on AI development, digital entrepreneurship and the empowerment of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Khan welcomed Meta’s increased involvement in Pakistan’s digital space, stating the country's digital economy continues to grow the fastest in South Asia.
He noted that Pakistan produces over 75,000 IT graduates each year and that Pakistan's IT and ITeS exports increased 18% in FY2025 to $3.8 billion.
In the first quarter of FY2026, exports increased 21% over the previous year, to $1.06 billion.
Khan shared that the government is in the final stages of the National E-Commerce Policy 2.0 (2025-2030) with a $20 billion target by 2030.
The policy focuses on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) digitisation and logistics and seeks to expand Pakistan's presence in the borderless e-commerce sector.
Khan invited Meta to work with the Ministry on the IT Sectoral Council focused on AI ethics, digital safety, and e-commerce standards development. He also proposed a Meta-Pakistan E-Commerce Accelerator Pilot and skilling programmes for youth in AI.
Frankel of Meta commended Pakistan for its advancement in digital change and reiterated Meta's commitment to support local entrepreneurs with programmes like Meta Boost that support digital skills training and responsible marketing.
Both parties have committed to collaborating on the continued development of AI innovation, online safety, and technology-enabled economic empowerment.
