Following weeks of user complaints, Microsoft has announced to reverse a recent model upgrade to its AI-powered image generator Bing.

This decision comes after Microsoft users reported that Bing AI’s performance had declined significantly since the upgrade to the DALL-E 3 model on December 18, 2024.

Bing AI image generator not working properly

Users took to social media sites, such as Reddit and OpenAI’s community forums, to express their disappointment with Bing AI’s output, citing less-detailed results and images that failed to provide results in line with their prompts.

Despite initial assurances from Microsoft's Head of Search Jordi Ribas that the model's output quality would improve, several users continued to report issues.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ribas later acknowledged the issue, stating that their team could reproduce "some of the issues reported" and would be reverting to an older version of the DALL-E model.

Bing AI’s recent update’s rollback is expected to take a few weeks to complete. Microsoft's decision to roll back the upgrade demonstrates the company's commitment to delivering a high-quality user experience.

Notably, in February 2024, Google also paused its AI chatbot Gemini’s ability to create images of people after users complained of historical inaccuracies.
