OpenAI is preparing to release ChatGPT for Teachers, a new AI assistant designed to support classrooms and educators with lesson planning, assignments, and daily academic tasks.
According to the company, this tool is meant to make AI more useful and accessible for teachers at a time when students worldwide are already using AI for schoolwork.
Key to ChatGPT for Teachers is that it follows all school privacy rules, including the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). It's a version built to better handle work related to students, providing teachers with a more controlled environment to experiment with AI.
This new AI assistant will add collaboration features to let educators share chats with colleagues and view suggestions based on how other teachers use the assistant.
Earlier, OpenAI released ChatGPT Edu, a platform that allows schools and universities to offer students institutional access to AI, similar to how official email accounts are provided.
The company also rolled out Study Mode, a feature that helps learners break down complex answers step by step. These updates reflect a broader push to integrate AI into modern learning systems.
OpenAI says that ChatGPT for Teachers includes the same capabilities as its main platform. Educators get unlimited messages with GPT-5.1 Auto, file uploads, image generation, app connectors, and memory features. The service after the launch will remain free for verified school employees until June 2027.
