In a groundbreaking development aimed at addressing environmental issues, an app has been launched for proper collection and recycling of plastic across the Punjab province in Pakistan.

Developed as part of the Punjab government's broader plans for the greening of the region, the app was officially launched and stepped into the limelight on Wednesday after Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan lauded the Suthra Punjab programme.

The app is designed to offer services ensuring timely and proper recycling of plastics, an efficient sustainability measure.

"The plastic waste around us is like a haunting nightmare," said the PA speaker while reflecting on the waste management issues, as reported by The News.

Calling it a much-needed initiative in the wake of deteriorating municipal services in Punjab, he also shed light on alarming issues taking a toll on the environmental health of the region.

"Our villages and towns are living in humiliating conditions, deprived of basic municipal facilities," he added.

Khan urged the Punjab government to incorporate the app into its "Suthra Punjab" programme to widen its reach and impact.
