The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has published the results of its Quality of Service (QoS) survey for Q2 2025, which found worrying discrepancies in the performance of fixed-line broadband services around the country.
Notably, the regulator reviewed 45 broadband service providers (BSP) in 22 key cities in accordance with the Fixed-Line Broadband Regulations, 2022, and found that most operators were falling short of one of the pivotal Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Bandwidth Utilisation.
When bandwidth usage is high, especially during times of peak consumption, it typically results in slower download and upload speeds for the consumer, much to their annoyance, resulting in interrupted streaming, choppy video calls, and sloth-like browsing experiences.
PTA emphasised concerns regarding this performance by defining the necessity for BSPs to ensure their networks and traffic are optimised for performance.
In response, the authority formally notified the non-compliant operators and supplied them with actual performance data, detailing precisely what they had not achieved in their original engagements.
With reporting now completed, these specific performance reports can be used as a basis for remedial action to invest in better infrastructure, smarter traffic management, and stronger bandwidth allocation processes.
The QoS survey is one of PTA’s scheduled assessments to manage and assess broadband services against regulatory obligations and consumer service expectations.
Moreover, the survey assessed many KPI examples, as measured by project incidences, which include network uptime, latency, jitter, packet loss, and customer care responsiveness.
