Islamabad is about to introduce a new digital upgrade to its traffic and parking procedures. All vehicles that enter Islamabad will now need M-Tags, as well there will now be a smart parking service at various places.
This information is outlined in an announcement made by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, during a high-level meeting that was conducted at CDA Headquarters.
Many officials were present, including the Deputy Commissioner, Excise Officers, and ICT members.
M-Tags are electronic vehicle identification tags that monitor vehicles and collect tolls without halting traffic.
From now on, vehicles that do not have M-Tags will not be permitted to enter the city of Islamabad. This will help ease congestion, improve monitoring, and allow for cashless tolls.
Currently, there will be a digital parking scheme for the entire city, starting with the most congested areas. Smart meters will be utilised and fees will be charged according to the amount of traffic in the zone during the period.
People will be able to reserve and pay for parking using a mobile app or QR code, rather than relying on manual payments.
“Islamabad is already shifting to digital parking,” said Randhawa. “Our goal is to ease congestion, save time, and offer cashless convenience through apps and online platforms.”
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) also announced that its One Window Centre will become fully digital, allowing citizens to pay for services like utility bills, parking, and taxes via cards, apps, or QR codes.
