In a bid to secure citizens, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued some guidelines, urging Pakistanis to adopt stronger password practices.

PTA noted that a secure password is the first line of defense in the digital world, protecting personal data and online accounts amid rising cyber threats.

In its advisory, PTA mentioned the following steps for safe digital practices:

  1. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all major accounts for added security.
  2. Create strong and unique passwords using a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  3. Prevent reusing the same password across multiple accounts.
  4. Do not share your password with anyone under any circumstances.
  5. Update passwords regularly to reduce the risk of breaches.
  6. Refrain from using personal details such as names, birthdays, or easy combinations like “1234.”
  7. Use biometric authentication (fingerprint or face ID) where available for additional protection.

“Your password is your shield. Keep it strong to stay secure and protected,” PTA said in its message.

According to the officials, weak passwords remain one of the simplest entry points for hackers to access your data. Citizens were urged to take responsibility for their digital safety by following these best practices.

Previously, PTA notified social media and internet users in Pakistan that sharing or promoting illegal content on the digital platform will not be tolerated.

The authority has highlighted serious concerns over deepening usage of digital spaces to spread false narratives, fake news, and harmful explicit content.

The PTA said this misuse of digital spaces to support harmful agendas and promote free speech and activism is concerning.
