PTA's safety guidelines

To protect yourself from smartphone scams, follow these essential guidelines:

  1. Buy from trustworthy sources: Only purchase smartphones from authorised dealers or reputable retailers.
  2. Check for warranty: Ensure the device comes with a valid warranty.
  3. Verify IMEI numbers: Match the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number on the box with the one on the phone.
  4. Look for PTA stamp: Confirm the PTA stamp is present on the packaging.
  5. Be cautious of low prices: Avoid suspiciously low prices for expensive devices.

Verifying your smartphone

To verify your smartphone's authenticity:

  • Visit the PTA's official website at dirbs.pta.gov.pk.
  • Send a text with the IMEI number to 8484.
  • Use the Device Verification System (DVS) app.
