Ai-Da, the trailblazing robot artist, makes history by becoming the first to sell her artwork at a major auction house, Sotheby's, with its captivating portrait of Alan Turing.

Ai-Da’s portrait

The portrait by Ai-Da is called "AI God," which stands 2.2 meters tall and is expected to retail between £100,000 and £150,000 after the online sale, running from October 31 to November 7.

This sale marks a significant milestone in the intersection of art and technology, showcasing the terrific power of AI-generated art.

The artwork's muted shades and broken facial planes illustrate Turing's warnings for a more manageable AI. Ai-Da's works continue to question the power and implications of AI.

Ai-Da: Ultra-realistic robot artist

Ai-Da is a humanoid machine, possibly resembling a female figure with a face and large eyes along with a brown wig. The robot is equipped with AI algorithms that enable her bionic hands to create art.

Meller also stated that Ai-Da's works do not just question the power of AI but also its implications.

Alan Turing is an especially poignant subject matter for Ai-Da, given that Turing himself expressed concerns about AI in the 1950s.

Given the experience he went through and his legacy as a codebreaker, mathematician, and computer scientist, Turing would be one of the best subjects for Ai-Da's art.

The portrait's muted tones and broken facial planes seemingly reflect Turing's warnings about managing AI.

In 2022, Ai-Da painted portraits of Glastonbury Festival headliners, including Billie Eilish, Diana Ross, Kendrick Lamar, and Paul McCartney. These works demonstrate Ai-Da's versatility and artistic prowess.
