In an effort to eradicate polio in the country, Sindh government has declared that parents who refuse to vaccinate their children will face severe consequences.
Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has ordered authorities to block mobile SIMs, and suspend passports and national identity cards of parents who are not complying.
In order to manage vaccine refusal cases through administrative, political, and social channels, the government will set up a "Polio Vaccine Refusal Cell" at the chief minister's residence.
"I have no option left but to punish those who shirk their national responsibility to eradicate polio," the Chief Minister said, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
The goal of the action is to raise polio vaccination rates in order to eventually eradicate the illness. Nine polio cases have been reported in Sindh, and the government is trying to make sure all kids, especially those from nomadic households, get the vaccine.
Authorities have been instructed by the chief minister to take strong action against parents who refuse to vaccinate their children against polio.
