Amid its uncertain future in the United States (US), TikTok has announced the merger of its Core Product and Trust & Safety teams.
Citing sources, TechCrunch reported that the CEO Shou Zi Chew noted that the new combined team will allow the company to utilise its technical capabilities and to meet safety and business goals in a more enhanced way.
"This new team will help us move faster as we develop the next generation of safety technology and will enable us to better leverage our technical capabilities across both business and safety objectives," Chew said.
"This reorganisation will put us in an even stronger position to match the opportunities ahead of us," he continued.
This move coincides with US President Trump's third extension of the TikTok shutdown deadline, which is now set for September 17.
Recently, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick warned that the app will probably be banned in the US if a deal for the sale of TikTok is not approved by China.
It should be noted that TikTok's former Head of Operations and Trust & Safety, Adam Presser, will take on the position of TikTok USDS General Manager.
Under the new arrangement, Presser will be responsible for protecting US national security interests, while Adam Wang will serve as the leader of the newly formed Platform Responsibility team.
Meanwhile, former TikTok USDS general manager Andy Bonillo will take on a new position as a senior adviser to Presser.
Moreover, as a part of the reorganisation, Jenny Zi will be in charge of TikTok Live, while Global Trust & Safety will be taken over by Sandeep Grover.
