The Islamabad and Rawalpindi authorities have blocked two important entrances with containers and suspended 3G/4G mobile services ahead of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan's (TLP) announced protest on Friday.
The interior ministry approved the suspension "until further orders" and directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to cooperate with local administrations.
Moreover, Section 144 has also been enforced in Punjab to restrict public gatherings and the display of weapons. However, the restrictions have created a severe inconvenience for residents, withholding travel and the ability to communicate.
Due to the TLP protest, public and private schools in Lahore have been shut down with immediate effect amid the blockages and heavy traffic in the city, stated the Lahore Education CEO.
Schools are sending messages to parents informing them of the unplanned closure, although many reported that messages were delayed because of poor mobile signals and internet outages.
