In its most recent Android beta release, 2.25.22.29, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that lets users share motion photos.

Via the Google Play Beta Program, this feature is now accessible to a limited number of beta testers and will progressively be made available to more users.

What are motion photos?

Motion photos, which frequently include audio, record the moments before and after a still image is taken.

Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices already support this format, referred to as "Motion Photo" and "Top Shot".

The new feature on WhatsApp allows users to choose a motion picture from their gallery and send it in dynamic mode, preserving sound and movement. From the editing screen, they can also turn it into a still picture.

After being sent, motion photos show a tiny motion icon in the upper-left corner of the thumbnail.

This feature works with motion photo formats captured on Android devices that are compatible.

Users of the Google Pixel may need to turn off the 50MP high-resolution mode in order to use the Top Shot function.

This integration makes it unnecessary to use third-party apps for sharing or turn motion photos into videos.

The feature is now only accessible to select beta testers, but WhatsApp plans to gradually increase access over the coming weeks.

Sharing more immersive memories is made possible by this development, which improves the media-sharing experience.

WhatsApp users can communicate more dynamic and interesting content by capturing moments that go beyond still photos.
