The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Monday announced a plan to make all airports across the country fully cashless as part of its broader digital transformation initiative.
In collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the PAA will introduce QR code-based systems that will enable passengers and staff to access all airport services using digital payments, thereby eliminating the need for cash transactions.
The PAA aims to improve convenience, transparency, and financial security for travellers and airport vendors. Officials said that all airport shops, restaurants, and vendors are required to adopt the cashless payment system.
It should be noted that this initiative will be implemented in phases. The first phase will cover Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore airports.
Meanwhile, in the second phase, the cashless payment system will be expanded to Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Multan airports.
According to a PAA spokesperson, this initiative is part of the authority's effort to digitalise operations and align with international standards. The cashless system will help prevent fraud, ensure transparency in transactions, and promote a modern financial environment.
The spokesperson added that passengers will continue to have the option to make cash payments; however, they are advised to use digital payment methods as much as possible.
