The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) made a public announcement on Thursday, requesting that all citizens check how many SIMs have been registered on their CNIC. The authority issued this reminder to users in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The post stated: “Sharing your SIM with someone else is a legal offence in Pakistan.” The campaign was initiated because of the rising trend of unverified SIMs being misused for these reasons, as well as others.
As the PTA indicates, a SIM that is linked and registered under your CNIC may be used to commit fraud and scamming or even be engaged in cybercrimes without your knowledge.
To assist citizens in this, PTA designed a straightforward process to check how many active SIMs are linked to your CNIC.
Step-by-step guide to check SIMs registered on your CNIC
- Go to cnic.sims.pk.
- Type your 13-digit ID card number without dashes.
- Complete the CAPTCHA verification.
- The system will show how many SIMs are registered under your CNIC and the networks they belong to.
- Send your CNIC number (without spaces or dashes) via SMS to 668. You’ll receive a text showing the count of SIMs under each network.
- If you find any SIMs you don’t recognise, visit your nearest mobile franchise or customer service centre to block them immediately.
PTA further advises the public to buy new SIMs only from authorised franchises to avoid misuse of personal data. The authority warns that issuing or sharing unauthorised SIMs could lead to strict legal action.
