The installation of jammers has been mandated on all trains across Pakistan in view of a recent spike in security concerns, as they prevent remote-controlled explosive devices.
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Railways made it mandatory for Pakistan Railways to use at least three jammers on each train and increase patrolling in sensitive areas.
These jammers are designed to neutralise remotely detonated explosive devices, enhancing safety for passengers travelling across the railway network, Geo Digital reported.
The decision comes on the heels of the recent explosion of Jaffar Express, which brought to light vulnerabilities in passenger safety. The explosion derailed five bogies and damaged the railway track, resulting in minor injuries to seven passengers, who were immediately taken to a local hospital.
The deputy inspector general of Railways Police disclosed that the blast was executed using a remote-control device and multiple explosives.
The initiative highlights the government's commitment to improving railway safety in the backdrop of previous incidents, including a hijacking by militants earlier this year. These unfortunate happenings underscore the need for advanced security measures in Pakistan Railways' operations.
