The Punjab government on Saturday announced to digitalise 38 toll plazas across 24 districts to bring efficiency and automation.
During a high-level meeting, chaired by Provincial Minister for Works and Communication Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharath, officials explained that the new digital system will automatically verify vehicles, reduce errors, and curb revenue leakages, ensuring smooth toll operations across the province.
Under the Work and Communication Department, the initiative aims to get transparency in toll collection through an electronic toll collection (ETC) system.
"The digital toll plazas will not only enhance revenue transparency but also improve travel convenience and time efficiency for citizens," said the minister, adding that the project will be applied in phases across major districts, including Attock, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Murree, and Vehari, among others.
Officials believe this initiative could serve as a model for other provinces, reducing corruption and optimising infrastructure management. The minister emphasised that the move aligns with Punjab's broad smart governance and digital transformation initiatives, as well as its commitment to accountability, and improved service delivery.
