In an unfortunate development, the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) website went offline on Wednesday, allegedly due to a technical fault.
At the time of the digital deadlock, CDA's website displayed a PHP error message instead of its homepage, indicating that the website’s hosting server had run out of storage space, which collapsed the site's interface on the public's end.
The bug blocked users from accessing important online services, such as property record searches, complaint submissions, and development information.
Technical experts noted that such errors often arise because of inadequate server maintenance or excessive log and cache files taking over a large chunk of server storage.
Fortunately, the website returned to its usual state and is now operational. However, CDA officials have not disclosed the root cause that led to the disruption.
The CDA previously announced plans to digitise land records and automate citizen services, but the fresh outage in question underscores the need for bigger server capacity and better technical management.
The CDA website failure serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining online services for the public, especially given the CDA's efforts to improve service delivery through digital means.
