Google is reportedly preparing a new security feature for Chrome, letting the app automatically replace compromised passwords with stronger, AI-generated alternatives.
This would be an upgrade from the current system, which only alerts users when their saved credentials have appeared in a data breach.
Leopeva64, a famous software researcher, noted the “Automated Password Change” feature in an early Chrome build under artificial intelligence (AI) settings. The description suggested that when Chrome identifies a breached password, it can quickly generate and store a new one rather than just informing the user.
According to Windows Report, this update excludes the requirement of manually changing compromised credentials. Google Password Manager will automatically store the new password, ensuring easy access for future logins.
Moreover, Google noted that the stored password remains encrypted and private. While Google’s preliminary description calls this an “AI innovation,” the exact role of AI in the process remains unclear.
It is expected that AI could assist in generating stronger passwords, automating the change process across different websites, or enhancing security suggestions for users.
Chrome’s existing password breach detection has assisted users secure their accounts by wilting exposed certifications.
However, the effort needed to change them often leads users to delay or ignore the warning. By introducing automatic password replacement, Google is aiming to help security practices and encourage better password hygiene.
