In a bid to advance its platform, Google has announced that it’s improving the editing experience for Drive videos with a new “Vids shortcut” button, allowing users to edit easily with new features.
Alphabet-owned tech giant revealed that the new feature allows Workspace users to initiate a video edit using Vids directly from the Google Drive interface.
Currently, while previewing a video in Google Drive, users will see an “Open” button in the top right corner that opens the video in the Vids app.
Vids will automatically launch the video file, enabling further edits such as trimming the clip or incorporating music and text.
This new shortcut, which is activated by default, notes that the company is integrating the app more closely with Google’s Workspace suite.
Vids aim to streamline video production, including the ability to generate videos from basic text prompts, automatically craft scripts, rearrange video clips, add transitions, and more.
This comes on the heels of the company introducing another Gemini AI feature for Workspace users in May, which enables them to use AI to summarise video files stored in Google Drive.
On the other hand, in the “Made by Google 2025” event, the tech giant added a new Parental Controls hub to the Android 16 beta.
This new feature offers a more thorough approach to parental control by combining two different systems. Apart from the on-device controls, the Parental Controls hub introduces Family Link, a more sophisticated toolkit that allows parents to connect their Google accounts to their children's accounts.
