Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold's integration into the main Pixel family marks a new chapter for Google and raises intriguing questions about its future plans for foldable devices. As the tech landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on the Alphabet-owned tech giant as it navigates this emerging market segment.

According to the Android Authority, Google plans to launch four new gadgets in the autumn. The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This strategic shift comes as a surprise, considering Google's tradition of unveiling only two new phones with each iteration since 2016.

In contrast to Google's previous strategy, where the original Pixel Fold was positioned as a stopgap between mainline releases, in 2023, the Pixel Fold failed to meet expectations, didn’t receive the new Tensor G3 chips, and had only three years of Android updates compared to the Pixel 8's generous seven-year support.

Rumours suggest that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will boast the same features and chipset as its standard counterparts, including the new Tensor G4 chip and updated software functionalities such as on-device Gemini Nano and pro camera settings.

The 9th generation of Pixels will feature a bigger camera sensor. Again, these are rumours, but they appear to have been confirmed by sources within Google. We'll learn more as October gets closer, when the tech giant typically debuts its new device lineup.

Google's decision to integrate its foldable device into its main Pixel family sets it apart from competitors like Samsung and Motorola, whose foldable phones exist in separate lineups. By folding the Fold into its primary lineup, Google signals a strategic shift and a commitment to supporting foldable technology moving forward.
