Pakistan suffered a severe internet outage on Tuesday night, with connectivity measuring 20% of normal levels, according to global internet observatory NetBlocks.

The internet outage commenced late Tuesday night and extended across several regions and resulted in millions of users losing access to internet services.

Internet in Pakistan severely disrupted

Online businesses, banking transactions, and day-to-day communication were affected by the recent internet outage, with users taking to social media to voice their frustrations about not being able to access the internet.

“Metrics show a major disruption to internet connectivity across Pakistan with high impact to backbone operator PTCL; overall national connectivity is down to 20% of ordinary levels,” NetBlocks confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Downdetector, a service that tracks service outages, reported that there were outages in cities including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Peshawar. Some users also reported outages from Sargodha and the Rawalpindi Cantonment.

Of the data, the majority of users (70–83%) indicated internet service issues, while others suggested a complete blackout (15–26%), and a very small number of users reported website issues (2).

Despite the extent of the outage, neither PTCL nor the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) provided a statement, nor did they provide an estimated time of service restoration as late as Tuesday night.
