As part of efforts underway to tighten the noose around multiple users accessing one subscription, streaming service Max has announced to end, gradually, its password sharing feature, following in the footsteps of Netflix and other renowned streaming platforms eyeing greater subscriber revenue.

Citing Warner Bros. CEO JB Perrette, Android Police outlined how Max would kick off its anti-password-sharing drive, starting with soft reminders which will later take on an aggressive form.

Initiating a slow and steady approach, password-sharing on Max will reportedly be terminated by the end of 2026, with plans to enforce even stricter measures across the platform.

"We can modify access or disable features, including for security reasons, to limit the impact of account sharing outside your household," said Perrette, clarifying that the platform has the right to act rigidly if misuse is detected.

Although the company has not provided details on how the policy will be implemented, an “Extra Member” add-on, like the one on Netflix, will be rolled out globally this year.

For the time being, soft messaging will be released in select US states.

This strategy by Max follows an overwhelming uptick in Netflix's subscription figures after it launched a clampdown on password-sharing.
