In partnership with provincial governments, NADRA has launched a digital birth and death registration system in hospitals across the country.

Hospitals can report these critical events directly to NADRA under the new system, ensuring quick, correct, and transparent entry of information into the national database.

A formal agreement was signed in Karachi between NADRA and top Sindh officials, such as the health secretary and the local government secretary.

Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani also attended the ceremony, at which NADRA Sindh DG Ehtesham Shahid signed in the authority's name.

A NADRA spokesperson said that the digital birth and death registration system will obtain records directly from hospitals, minimising delays and errors that are normally present in manual systems.

Moreover, it will enable proper population data and assist in planning services such as healthcare, education, and welfare.

The new system also integrates with NADRA's "Udan Pakistan" initiative, which aims to leverage technology to drive economic activity and enhance governance.

In addition, digitally verified data from hospitals will also feed into bigger objectives such as digital ID services and growth in Pakistan's digital economy.

Furthermore, NADRA is collaborating with the World Bank on the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, and such arrangements have already been inked with the Balochistan government in Quetta.
