In an unexpected turn of events, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane, travelling from Karachi to Lahore, landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport without one of its rear wheels.

A probe was launched into the matter immediately after Flight PK-306 landed safely at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

According to The News, a PIA spokesperson confirmed that the post-flight inspection disclosed that one of the aircraft's rear wheels was missing.

The missing rear wheel was not found at either the Karachi or Lahore airports even 14 hours following the arrival of the plane.

It was learned that the aircraft took off from Karachi with all its wheels in place and made a normal landing at the Lahore airport without one. Later on, a part of the tire shaft was found at the Karachi airport following a notification issued by Lahore’s Air Traffic Control (ATC).

The incident is likely to have been caused by some external object hitting the Karachi airport's runway, said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in a preliminary statement.

The PIA spokesperson also pointed out the runway anomaly, stating that the actual root cause leading to the loss of a rear wheel will be determined in the final report of the investigation.
