The Punjab Police, in partnership with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), launched a new mobile app, Pehchaan, that helps citizens verify the criminal record of potential employees, tenants, and other individuals before hiring them.
According to the Punjab Police, this initiative aims to prevent fraud, theft and potential crimes by giving people quick access to police data.
Through the Pehchaan app, users can enter a person’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number to instantly check their background through official records.
How does Pehchaan app work?
The PSCA Pehchaan app utilises biometric technology such as facial recognition and fingerprint scanning to validate identities and prevent fraud.
The app allows individuals to create a secure digital identity, which can be used to access different services and benefits such as government schemes, financial inclusion programmes and healthcare services.
Officials said the app is part of their ongoing digital safety drive to protect homes, offices, and businesses from possible scams or threats. Citizens are encouraged to use the app before employing anyone to ensure their safety.
The Pehchaan app is available for free on Google Play and the App Store.
