In a significant move to develop, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has approved a series of major developments, including upgrading Sukkur and Dera Ismail Khan (DI) airports to international standards.

According to PAA officials, the authority has decided to expand Sukkur Airport along with its runway to meet international standards.

In addition, Dera Ismail Khan Airport will undergo a complete reconstruction to change it into a modern facility.

In parallel, Rahim Yar Khan Airport will see major upgrades. The approved plan includes infrastructure renovations and runway extensions, aimed at enhancing passenger experience and boosting regional connectivity.

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government will decide on the construction of a new airport in Mirpur after the completion of a feasibility study, the sources added.

Earlier, the government decided to build an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) at the demand of overseas Pakistanis.

In this context, a letter from British Members of Parliament of Kashmiri origin also surfaced, supporting the demand.

With the upgradation of airports, the PAA aims to modernise the country’s aviation sector, enhance travel convenience, and accommodate the growing demand for air travel.
