Very long after Android users have relished using multiple WhatsApp accounts on a single device, the functionality is now, thankfully, expanding to iPhones too.

With multi-account compatibility coming, WhatsApp's iPhone users must note that the company is currently testing this feature, allowing them to switch between multiple accounts with a single app.

This functionality, currently available in the latest TestFlight beta, enables users to manage different identities without needing workarounds or installing WhatsApp Business as a separate app.

Once activated, users will see a new "Account List" section in the WhatsApp settings. Here, they can add a second account using a different phone number, linked device, or by scanning a QR code.

Each account retains its own chat history, cloud backup options, notification settings, and privacy preferences, ensuring personal and professional conversations remain distinct. Notifications will indicate which account a message originates from, minimising confusion.

As of now, WhatsApp on iPhones only supports two accounts at a time, and early testers reported compatibility with App Lock and biometric security tools like Face ID and Touch ID to enable independent protection for each account.

Those eager to try more than one WhatsApp account on their iPhones should note that a public release has not been announced, with the beta rollout indicating progress towards wider availability.

WhatsApp's new iOS upgrade is particularly beneficial for freelancers, business owners, and those managing multiple communication roles, eliminating the need for multiple devices.

As the Meta-owned messaging app continues to enhance its platform, questions about expanding support beyond two accounts and future identity options remain.
