YouTube TV is facing a contract dispute with Paramount, which could lead to all Paramount-owned channels going offline on February 13, 2025. Users may lose across to channels like CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, BET, and several other channels if the two companies do not reach an agreement.
YouTube TV confirmed through an email to its subscribers that despite efforts to negotiate, no deal has been finalised. If the agreement is not renewed, Paramount content will be removed, including any recorded shows in the user’s DVR libraries.
Interestingly, this announcement came shortly after many CBS and Paramount channels experienced an outage on YouTube TV.
Additionally, a similar dispute happened in 2021, when YouTube TV lost Disney-owned channels like ESPN and FX due to a contract disagreement. That issue was resolved within a day, but it remains unclear how long this standoff with Paramount might last.
YouTube TV offers credits amidst dispute
To compensate for the potential loss of content, YouTube TV is offering subscribers a monthly credit. If Paramount channels remain unavailable for a long period, users will get an $8 discount on their bills.
YouTube is offering subscribers a monthly credit to compensate for the potential loss of content. Those who subscribe to the Entertainment Plus bundle will receive a $10 discount per month, and users with Paramount+ with Showtime or BET+ subscriptions will not be charged until the issue is resolved.
If users still want to watch Paramount content, they can subscribe to Paramount+ directly for $8 per month. YouTube TV says it is actively working to bring Paramount channels back, but until an agreement is reached, viewers may need to look for alternative ways to access their favourite content.
