Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD showcased its new megawatt charging technology, indicating that electric cars will soon recharge almost as fast as gasoline refill technology.
This announcement was made at a new event at Dubai Festival City, where BYD appears to have introduced their charging system beyond China for the first time, a substantial move towards EV adoption in the UAE.
BYD stated that the new charging infrastructure delivers up to 400 kilometres of range in just five minutes."It's like you go to the gas station and grab a coffee," stated BYD Executive Vice President and CEO of Americas and Europe operations Stella L.
Additionally, BYD professionals stated that the technology will work on all electric cars starting in the new year and give drivers both a universal and much faster way to charge.
The UAE has attempted to establish itself as a clean mobility hub, not including the fact that BYD is collaborating with partners to deploy more than 600 fast-charging stations throughout the Middle East by the end of 2026, while the final number of stations to be placed in the Emirates is still being solidified across the continent.
Moreover, the chargers will also use a universal connector, although not every EV may be able to take full advantage of the maximum charging speed.
Alongside this, BYD is also working on future technologies like autonomous driving and smart systems to further improve the EV experience.
