Pixel phones may soon warn users about scam messages in their favourite chat apps. Several rumours surfacing have revealed that Google’s Scam Detection feature is being expanded to work with apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Signal, and more.

Currently, the Scam Detection feature on Pixel devices works for calls and texts, but the new update suggests it will now scan chat notifications to alert users about suspicious messages.

The Android System Intelligence update for Pixel 10 series devices (version B.13.playstore.pixel10.801661517) has introduced files that indicate supported apps, such as Google Messages, Google Chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Signal, Kakao Talk, Line, Twitter, Facebook Messenger Lite, and Verizon Messages.

However, rumours suggest that this list isn't final confirmation, and some entries, like Hangouts, are outdated.

According to the Android Authority, Scam Detection will notify users about “suspicious activities” or malicious content within messages.

Users may also see an option to verify that a message was not a scam or temporarily disable Scam Detection for a specific chat. This option to disable specific messages means users can still receive notifications about suspicious messages in other conversations without disabling the functionality entirely.

Reportedly, the expanded scam protection will be rolled out first for Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 for users.
