The Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) on Monday decided to modernise the city's pelican system and traffic signals to improve the traffic management in Lahore.

During the meeting, chaired by Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General (DG) Tahir Farooq, the installation of contemporary traffic lights at twenty significant intersections was reviewed. Following the successful pilot at Faisal Chowk, TEPA will expand the initiative, according to a briefing from TEPA Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain and the Director of Traffic Engineering.

A video vehicle detection system will be incorporated into the new traffic signals to improve pedestrian convenience and safety. The pelican system would enhance traffic flow throughout the city, stressed DG Farooq.

To ensure a more effective and well-coordinated traffic management system, the new signals will be connected to the traffic police and the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) traffic system.

The following places are included in the project:

  • GPO
  • High Court
  • Regal
  • Governor House
  • Davis Road
  • Canal Road Junction
  • Zafar Ali Road
  • Fortress Stadium
  • Jinnah Chowk
  • Sarfraz Rafiqui Road
  • Secretariat
  • Ferozepur Road
  • Muslim Town Mor
  • Bhekewal
  • Dubai Chowk
  • Barkat Market
  • Firdous Market
  • Askari 10
  • Parvez Aslam Chowk

Lahore will see a notable decrease in traffic jams and an increase in road safety as a result of this development.
