Pakistan Railways has announced a beautification and modernisation campaign, which includes planting trees and flowers along railway tracks while upgrading key stations to offer passengers a convenient and more comfortable travel experience.

The department — in partnership with the Punjab government — has formally started an urban tree plantation drive to make the railway tracks beautiful, and eliminate the solid waste (garbage) from the tracks.

The first phase has started in Mandi Bahauddin, Malakwal, Sargodha, and Bhalwal, where plantation work is already underway.

Moreover, Pakistan Railways is continuing upgrades across major stations, including Lahore, Karachi, and Faisalabad. Officials said modern facilities, improved waiting areas, and enhanced technology are being added to create a more comfortable travel environment.

A Pakistan Railways spokesperson stated: “This plantation drive will create greener corridors along railway tracks and significantly improve the travel environment for passengers.”

At Karachi Railway Station, new waiting areas are being developed through a public-private partnership. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also launched a new upgraded Shalimar Express train to offer passengers more comfort and convenience.
