Spotify is rolling out a new direct messaging feature that allows friends to share songs, podcasts and audiobooks without leaving the Spotify app.
This new feature, Messages, will be available starting this week in selected markets for mobile users age 16 and older, including Free and Premium subscribers.
From the Now Playing view, users can presently tap the share icon and select a friend to message.
Messages can be sent to anyone on your Spotify plan as well as people you have interacted with on Stories, Blends and Collaborative Playlists.
When you receive a song, podcast or audiobook, it will be stored in your individualised Messages inbox, which can be accessed by tapping your profile picture in the top-left corner.

Messages allows for 1:1 text messaging with emoji reactions and will use industry-standard levels of encryption. Users can accept or reject message requests, block other users and leave messages altogether. Spotify will monitor for harmful content and will also review reported messages.
Furthermore, the Messages is designed to bring new music recommendations together in one place that users are regularly sharing on other third-party platforms, such as Instagram, WhatsApp and TikTok. The idea is to make it simpler for users to both share and find music recommendations in one place.
