Spotify on Wednesday launched a new feature, "Taste Profile," which gives users more control over their music recommendations.

The music streaming platform revealed that the new feature allows users to exclude specific tracks from influencing their taste profile. This move aims to improve personalised suggestions across playlists and features like Discovery Weekly, Wrapped, and Blend.

How to use ‘Taste Profile’ feature on Spotify?

To use the “Taste Profile” feature, follow these steps:

  1. Select the track or playlist you want to exclude.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of your screen.
  3. Choose “Exclude from your Taste Profile” (or “Include in your Taste Profile” to add it back later).

With more control over your "Taste Profile," your recommendations and personalised features can stay true to your unique musical taste, even if your listening habits sometimes take a detour.

Spotify highlighted that personalisation has always been central to its platform, but admitted that in real-life situations, like parents dealing with children’s playlists or households sharing smart speakers’ algorithmic recommendations, they often became skewed.

“Excluding a track will lessen the impact of both past and future streams of that song on your recommendations, so your ‘just for the moment’ listening doesn’t end up skewing your Spotify experience,” the company said in its announcement.

“This feature offers more recourse for listeners who want their recommendations to truly reflect their personal taste and ensures their Spotify Wrapped experience isn’t ruined by the kids’ music,” the music streaming platform added.

Currently, the feature is available globally for free and Premium listeners across Spotify’s web, desktop, and mobile apps, making it simpler for users to influence the music that the platform will suggest in the future.
