YouTube has announced a major update to its live streaming policy. Starting July 22, 2025, users must be at least 16 years old to go live on the platform.
YouTube is one of the world’s most popular platforms for sharing and streaming videos. Many young creators use it to connect with their audience in real time.
However, YouTube is tightening the rules for how minors can use live streaming features.
YouTube introduces new restrictions on live streaming
According to the new guidelines, users aged 13 to 15 will no longer be allowed to live stream on their own. They can still appear in a stream, but only if they are visibly accompanied by an adult.
If this rule is broken, YouTube may disable live chat, restrict certain features, or even remove the stream.
Other key points from the policy update include
- Channels owned by adults can still feature teens, but the adult must be on camera and actively involved in the stream.
- Teens can give an adult access to their account as an editor or manager to help manage the live stream, but YouTube requires that the adult be present on-screen.
- Repeat violations may result in a temporary or permanent ban from live streaming.
YouTube also encourages young creators to be mindful of what they share online, moderate their chats, and involve trusted adults during live sessions.
