In a major revolution in the realm of streaming sphere, Google has started providing AI-powered search results on YouTube.
While this AI feature aims to enhance search efficiency, it has caused a stir among YouTube creators.
As the feature summarises content without secuing full views, creators are likely to experience lower viewership and reduced engagement, which will eventually impact ad revenue.
This experimental feature, currently available only to YouTube Premium subscribers, represents a major shift in how users discover and interact with video content.
Ditching the traditional list of video thumbnails and titles, select searches will now showcase a string of AI-generated summaries along with relevant videos.
The AI search carousel appears at the top of the results page in the YouTube mobile app, providing users with concise, machine-generated summaries of videos related to their search terms.
For instance, a Premium user searching for “best noise-cancelling headphones” might see a row of video thumbnails accompanied by brief summaries highlighting key points from each video.
Users can play any video directly from the carousel, but the summaries may be sufficient for some to forgo watching the full video.
Currently, the AI carousel supports only English-language videos and is being tested in specific categories like shopping, locations, and activities.
YouTube has yet to clarify whether creators will be compensated for their summarised content or if they can opt out.
