Websites that sell personal information of Pakistani people are still up, as the special investigation team that is investigating the data breach has stated that they need another three weeks to finish their report.
The Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took notice of this issue after a report circulated that the private information of citizens, including federal ministers, senior government officials, and citizens of Pakistan, was being sold online, without any response from authorities.
After the report, the Director General of the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Waqaruddin Syed, constituted a seven-member team and tasked it to file its report in 14 days.
However, the team will take more time to report on when and how this breach occurred and has been directed to file an interim report on its progress.
As the reports are ongoing, websites and places for the sale of sensitive data remain unblocked, and there has been no action as yet from any regulatory authority, such as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Citizens have also reported that sensitive information has also been traded via WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages, worrying citizens regarding their privacy and preventing it from being exploited.
