Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature that gives users in and other regions more control over what appears in their Reels and Explore feeds.
The feature allows users to add or remove topics according to their interests, offering a more personalised experience on the platform.
Instagram Reels algorithm feature
The announcement was posted by Instagram Head Adam Mosseri on Threads. He revealed that the company is first launching this feature to test on Reels, with the goal of testing on Explore soon. This update is intended to allow users to refine their algorithm, indicating which type of content they want more or less of.
“This is a way for you to tune your algorithm by adding and removing topics based on your interests,” Mosseri said. He added that the goal is to give people more control over their Instagram experience, allowing them to spend time on content that actually matters to them.
Instagram has been consistently updating its recommendation system. In recent months, the company has introduced options allowing users to mark posts “not interesting” and to restrict sensitive content. Parental controls have also been added, enabling families to decide what their children see in their feeds.
Mosseri stated that Meta, Instagram's parent company, was considering building a similar feature for Threads after a trend went viral suggesting users ask the app's "algorithm" to connect with people of like mind.
Although Instagram has not provided any information regarding the timing of this feature being rolled out in Pakistan, it will be rolled out gradually in the coming months to more and more users.
