Google has announced the coming of its video editing app, YouTube Create, to iOS devices nearly two years after the app launched exclusively on Android.
According to TechCrunch, the Alphabet-owned tech giant is actively hiring engineers in India for the iOS development project.
YouTube Create offers free mobile video editing tools designed for content creators, providing features like stickers, GIFs, and effects for both YouTube Shorts and longer-form videos.
It is worth noting that Google developed the app after consulting with 3,000 creators to ensure it met their requirements.
How to use YouTube Create?
- To use YouTube Create app, creators would add their clips, then select from a range of editing tools to begin creating their video.
- With the app, they can do things like preview splits and trim their clips as they’re putting together a video. There are also thousands of stickers, GIFs, and a set of effects available within the app.
The app is Google’s attempt to rival ByteDance’s popular CapCut editor, while exclusive Sensor Tower data shows YouTube Create is quite far behind CapCut and another established competitor, InShot.
In the second quarter of this year, CapCut and InShot have been downloaded 66 million and 21 million times on Android devices. Meanwhile, YouTube Create has seen fewer than 500,000 downloads this quarter and just 4 million downloads since its launch.
YouTube Create provides access to library of royalty-free tracks, so creators can choose from thousands of songs to complement their videos. All these songs are copyright-safe, so creators can monetise their videos without worry, the company says.
Sensor Tower Senior insights analyst Abe Yousef stated: “An iOS release of YouTube Create could absolutely help the platform grow its market share, though fierce competition in the space both from other social media-backed video editing platforms and native video editors will persist.”
On iOS — the platform YouTube Create is now targeting — the competition is just as fierce.
