Mobile phone operators are offering free on-network voice calls to customers in areas severely affected by flooding, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said Tuesday, marking a major relief effort.
This initiative seeks to enable unbroken communication with the continuous disruptions brought on by the floods.
In spite of damaged infrastructure and financial limitations, the PTA claims that the arrangement allows telecom users to make same-network calls even when they have no mobile balance, guaranteeing that people in flood-affected areas can stay in touch with family members and emergency services.
According to the PTA, more than 72% of the impacted telecom sites have been brought back online, and ongoing work is being done to get the remaining sites back online.
The authorities have promised to keep a careful eye on the situation and promptly inform the public of any developments.
In addition to reaffirming its commitment to working with mobile operators during this crucial time, the PTA emphasised its commitment to monitoring service delivery in affected areas and guaranteeing openness and public awareness through frequent updates.
