In an unfortunate development, the Islamabad IT Park is allegedly not going to launch on its October 2025 deadline, as it has once again derailed from the progressive track.
Given a stoppage in progress, it now appears that the IT Park's launch will be further delayed, with a possibility of a 2026 opening.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, PhoneWorld noted that the project could go beyond its October 31, 2025, deadline, drawing criticism from the prime minister.
The IT Park was initially set for completion by March 23, 2025, however, various challenges and regulatory inefficiencies pushed this date back.
IT ministry sources were also quoted to have attributed the delay to contractor inefficiency and a slow work pace. There are growing concerns that further delay could jeopardise the government’s aim to boost digital growth in the country.
The IT Park is designed to be a modern facility with two basements and nine floors, featuring advanced offices, incubation centres, and workspaces for tech companies. Its goal is to create job opportunities for youth and attract local and foreign investment in Pakistan’s tech sector.
Officials believe the park will help bridge the digital divide, improve connectivity, and enhance Pakistan’s competitiveness in IT services. However, the continued delays are frustrating young professionals, IT firms, and investors eager for the park's launch.
Experts argued that timely completion is crucial to boost the IT industry and the overall economy, as the government promised to implement stricter supervision to speed up progress and make the IT Park a landmark initiative for Pakistan's digital future.
